YMCA Launches New Mental Wellness Program for Young Adults

The YMCA of Medicine Hat is launching its newest community program this week. Y Mind is an innovative, youth informed, early intervention program that helps teens and young adults manage stress and anxiety. Helping young people cope with anxiety and improve their sense of well-being, Y Mind introduces them to evidence-based tools while connecting them with peers and experienced professionals over the course of seven weeks. Thanks to financial support provided through the Public Health Agency of Canada, and a partnership between YMCA Canada and YMCAs of BC, this innovative program is now available here in Medicine Hat.

Offered at the YMCA's new Y on 2nd location, this program is the newest addition to the Y's portfolio of Community Programs, which include the Y Parent (formerly Young Moms’ Program), Camp Jude, Youth Transitions, and Alternative Suspension.

The Y is offering two sessions of the seven-week program for people between the ages of 18 to 30 who are experiencing mild-to-moderate stress or anxiety. There is no cost to participate. Pre-registration is required.

Saturday Sessions: March 11th to April 29th 1:00PM to 4:00PM

Tuesday Sessions: March 14th to April 25th 6:30PM to 9:00PM

"Youth are experiencing high levels of mental health and addiction issues," says Victoria Potter, Director of Community Programs at the YMCA of Medicine Hat. "This program empowers youth to develop the skills needed to respond to anxiety and improve their wellbeing. The Y is always working to fill gaps in our community, and this latest program is one way we are following through on that commitment."
