YMCA Launches NEW Employment Program Offering Extended Child Care Hours

The YMCA of Medicine Hat is excited to announce a NEW program offered through our YMCA Employment Services designed to help parents with young children expand their employability: the HOW Child Care Program (Employment Services and Hours of Work Child Care).

"For many people, lack of access to child care is their largest barrier to finding and retaining employment," says Jodie Engbert, Director of Employment Services, "At the YMCA, we know that when everyone has access to meaningful job opportunities, the whole community wins. With this program, we are responding to community need by removing that barrier directly."

The program will provide job search assistance and child care to eligible parents of children ages zero to six from 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays out of the YMCA John Millar Child Development Centre. Additionally, parents who participate in the program may be eligible to receive financial assistance for childcare on a graduated basis.

The program is still in its initial launch mode, with just 10 of 16 child care spots available, with plans to expand more extended child care spots in the future.

Families who would benefit from this program should reach out to employment@medicinehatymca.ca One of our Employment Advisors will meet with them to discuss their needs and begin the program intake process
