Statement on Recent Incident at YMCA Crestwood Before & After School Care Program

Medicine Hat, AB, September 28, 2022: On the afternoon of September 27, an incident occurred at the YMCA Crestwood Before & After School Care Program involving a child and a YMCA staff member. YMCAs across Canada adhere to stringent national Child Safety and Protection Standards. We want to assure the community that we take incidents such as this very seriously and have acted accordingly.

We can confirm that Children’s Services and the Medicine Hat Police Service are investigating, and we are cooperating with them during this time. As with any child-related occurrences, we cannot disclose specific details, however we can confirm that we are also conducting our own internal investigation. Additional supports are being offered to impacted children, families, and employees.

Promoting the safety, well-being, and potential of children, youth, and vulnerable persons is the cornerstone of our work at the YMCA of Medicine Hat.
